Pros and Cons of a Freelancer
Your job as a freelance consultant is not that easy, you take a lot of responsibilities and you should be disciplined enough to be successful. Pursuing this career can be tough and you should take a lot of time and effort to succeed.Finding the right job that suits what you really what is not that quick, it takes a lot of time and most especially, to be experienced in this field to be more competitive than others. Today’s competition is very hard and most of the time, only the best person get the position that they wanted.A freelancer’s job can be a bit complicated, a half fun and a half not. Here, I made a list of some of the pros and cons of being a freelancer.
PROS:
1. You are the boss. It is because you’re working alone, you hire yourself as your own boss, you can do the things you wish to do without someone telling you and most especially you hold the power over your projects and workload.
2. You get a hold of your time. Of course, you have the control over your time. A regular employee usually wakes up at around six in the morning and prepares himself for a working day ahead, while a freelancer can wake up anytime he wishes and can actually do whatever he wants to do first because he’s the boss of his own.
3. Money is better. A regular employee usually takes a lot of time at work to get an extra money every pay day, while a freelancer doesn’t do that, because even if he works less he’s still being paid for the same amount.
4. Stress is less. It is because he works less and works at home, a freelancing career can be less stressful. He can prioritize anything first and he can actually choose not to work if he feels not working.
CONS:
1. You do less of what you are doing. Employees usually have quotas and targets which motivates them work hard, if you are a workaholic person then this field is not for you.
2. You have to manage yourself well. In choosing this field, you should be able to manage yourself very well. It is very important that you prioritize the needs and wants. You should know how to give time for every task.
3. You have lack of security. It is because you work at home. It doesn’t matter that you are safe enough. Having this career is not an assurance as well. You didn’t sign any written contract with an employer not just like a regular employee who are secured enough that if ever something happens, a company or an employer can be there to provide the needs.
4. This is not for sociable people. If you are a person who loves socializing and always needs someone to talk to or to get around with, freelancing job is not for you. This job is not for those people who want to have a lot of pals. It is because you are working alone.
Keep in mind that your career is like that of a sown field, you need to plow the ground, fertilize the land, throw some seeds, water, watch each plants to grow and look after them while fruiting. Just remember that some trees needs a lot of time to be fruitful, you just have to fertilize a lot of patience.
