Choose the Right Job Offer Using Mind Mapping

So you’re one of the lucky few who has been offered more than one job as a result of your job search. While many would find being in this position enviable, it, nonetheless, presents a very specific challenge — deciding which job offer to take. This decision is an important one as that, for most, one’s job is the place where one spends a great deal of his or her time and energy. Mind Mapping is one tool that can be incredibly instrumental in deciding between multiple job offers; with Mind Maps, one can literally “map out” all the details of each offer, from salary to company location and benefits, in one diagram using colors, pictures, or other graphics as desired. Organizing information in this manner has been shown to allow the brain to process and recall the information more naturally, as well as allow one to work with the information more efficiently. Thus, Mind Mapping gives those needing to weigh more than one job offer a creative and effective way to do so and make the right choice.

Using Mind Mapping to Compare Multiple Job Offers

Clarisse has been searching for a job in advertising for the past 3 months. It appears that all of her hard efforts have paid off, as she now has 5 great job offers among which she must choose. Clarisse decides to compare her options using Mind Mapping, and she begins constructing a Mind Map by, first, representing the purpose of the map, comparing the job offers, in the map’s center. She then adds branches to the map, on which she lists the names of each company that she has received an offer from. On child branches attached to each branch, she then lists the specifics of each offer, such as salary or other benefits she may receive. She also lists on the child branches information such as the company’s distance from her home and its policies on sick leave and time off. Throughout her Mind Map, Clarisse uses colors, pictures, and other graphics to make her map more creative and her choices easier to conceptualize. When she has completed her map, it looks similar to the attached Mind Map diagram.

Choosing the Right Job Offer Thanks to Mind Mapping

After organizing the specifics of each job offer using Mind Mapping, Clarisse begins to see a clear frontrunner emerge from the options. One job, in particular, has the salary, location, and company benefits that she feels will most suit her. Had Clarisse tried to make her decision using the job offer letters themselves, rather than a Mind Map, it would have been more difficult for her to compare the options, as well as clearly see the specifics of each offer. The Mind Map, however, also allowed her to efficiently and creatively choose the offer that she felt had the elements important to her in a job. As a result, Clarisse believes that she will be extremely happy in her new job, and is glad that she used Mind Mapping to help her carefully weigh and make such an important decision.
